People Tell Their Stories and also...

"I haven't spoken to a person
in the United States in at least three years who doesn't have
a healthcare horror story. The system has become so bad that virtually
everyone has been touched by a:
-
job loss;
-
bankruptcy;
-
union contract that requires a
much larger personal commitment;
-
a disastrous delay or waiting period;
-
a denial by an insurance company;
-
an inability to pay for needed
prescription drugs;
-
an intervention by the FDA to keep
people from getting cheaper prescription drugs from Canada;
-
a doctor who has decided to stop
practicing rather than being told what to do by insurance companies
and HMO's;
-
an untimely death resulting from
a medical mistake or cutbacks in medical and nursing personnel;
-
a decision to "cut the pills
in half" in order to pay for food and rent;
-
restrictions on medically necessary
equipment for people with disabilities;
-
a denial of mental health care
because the payments cover only 50% of costs or there is a delay
in getting treatment for four or five months;
-
fraud on the part of various healthcare
providers with little oversight.
And these are just a few of the thousands of stories..."
