"As the South goes, so goes the nation..."
This often heard saying may be truer than ever now. We must respond to attacks against people in the form of deportations, police actions and the loss of basic human rights. In healthcare, that attack could take us back to a situation where 50 million of us have no access to healthcare. These attacks are imminent and matters of life or death that must be turned back by a coordinated grassroots effort of resistance.
Healthcare-NOW members host an informal monthly conference call for healthcare activists in the South. We invite all people preparing to resist repression to join our efforts to protect the human right to healthcare as we join with others against repression in all its forms.
We are rooted in the special circumstances of southern history that have left a ‘states rights’ legacy of low unionization, massive privatization of resources and gross inequities. We draw our inspiration from the creativity of the Abolitionists, the courage of the Civil Rights Movement and the foot soldiers of the Medical Committee for Human Rights. We invite you to join us on our Southern calls as we work to protect the human rights of all and achieve Improved Medicare for All! An attack on One is an attack on All!
