Tell Congress: No Cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid

Call Your Senators – National Call-In Day Today

As part of the negotiations to raise the national debt ceiling, Wall Street-funded politicians in Congress and the White House are proposing significant cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. They want to:

– Cut Social Security’s COLA – even though Social Security does not contribute one penny to the national deficit, and is financially secure for decades.

– Raise the eligibility age of Medicare from 65 to 67 – threatening the health and lives of tens of millions of seniors and people with disabilities who are dependent on Medicare for health coverage.

– Implement deep cuts in Medicaid funding, assisting the efforts of governors who have targeted Medicaid for state cuts and endangering tens of millions of Americans who count on Medicaid.

CALL YOUR SENATORS
1-866-251-4044 (toll free)

Tell them:
No cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid
No cuts to Social Security’s COLA
No Social Security payroll tax holiday

Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid belong to you – you pay for them in every paycheck. Don’t let them cut it or raid it.

What’s behind this attack?

The refusal of leaders of both parties to increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans and Wall Street – despite a huge decline in tax revenues from the top 1 percent of taxpayers and the majority of big corporations that evade taxes.

Efforts to privatize Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid and raid these benefits for Wall Street banks, investment houses, and insurance companies. Those who created the economic crisis don’t need more handouts.

This action is part of National Nurses United’s Main Street Contract for the American People – a new direction that puts Main Street first and asks Wall Street to pay their fair share.

I think that Medicare and Social security is being held for ransom by the Republican party in order to get what they want. The President is trying to compromise with these Republicans who want a balanced budget as long as the rich dont pay more taxes or lose their loopholes. They feel that working people will be happy not paying more taxes but instead they would pay more medical costs or take a hit on their social security. Either way the working guy still loses and the rich stay richer. If the economy tanks and the market is in turmoil the rich gets even richer so no matter what the rich win. A good example is Exxon mobil who get tax loopholes even though they rake in billions in profits. Oh yes thats fair while the rest of us pay our fair share they get a break.

    • Edith L. Laster on July 18, 2011 at 11:18 pm

AMEN, I THINK ITS PAST TIME TO HAVE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY INVESTIGATED FOR PAY OFFS OR SELL OUTS. THEY ARE WAY TOO DETERMINED TO KEEP THE RICH FROM HAVING THEIR TAXES RAISED. I WOULD RATHER PAY MORE TAXES MYSELF THAN LET THE REPUBLICANS WIN THIS BATTLE,THEY WANT TO PAY DOWN THE DEFICIT BUT NOT WITH TAXING THOSE WHO CAN AFFORD IT, ARE THEY CRAZY OR MAKING DEALS FOR THEMSELVES?

  2. bobby sandage on July 18, 2011 at 10:17 pm

Hold the line and do not cut social security and medicare. You
should tax the rich at higher rate. You should close the loop
    holes for big business

  3. Joseph Martinez on July 18, 2011 at 10:17 pm

NO CUTS NOT EVEN COLA,,TO HELL WITH THE REPUBLICANS!!!!! We will fire them in 12

  4. Jean Riccardi on July 18, 2011 at 10:18 pm

The Republicans have to be stopped now. The President has to remain steadfast and not compromise with these thugs.

  5. mezzay on July 18, 2011 at 10:18 pm

being an independant voter, I will NEVER AGAIN vote Republicans… the republican’s aim is to fail Obama, which to me is failing the country not Obama. Why would I vote for someone who ONLY cares about his/her interest

    • Jopech on July 19, 2011 at 12:34 am

About time you wpoke up. You and others are why we’re in this mess.

  6. Dave harper on July 18, 2011 at 10:19 pm

Stay strong, no cuts to our programs, raise the damn taxes

  7. Carol on July 18, 2011 at 10:20 pm

I believe this debt ceiling fiasco is a ploy by BOTH democrats and republicans to protect the wealthiest Americans. They are all in the same pocket. The American people need to unite, without politicians, and take a stand in Washington, at the White House, before our President gives away Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. A democrat all my life, I know a game when I see one.

    • Jopech on July 19, 2011 at 12:44 am

Why are you blaming both Parties? Sure there are some Democrats who vote with Republicians but the Republicans on the whole are responsible for this mess. You Republicans and Independent supporters just can’t bring yourselves to lay it all on your party.
MAN UP and tell it like it is.

  8. Sally Dobbs on July 18, 2011 at 10:21 pm

The republicans are crazy if they think that for one second we will let them cut our hard earned benefits. Many of us are barely making it through a month as it is. I am down to my last dime at the months end. Many disabled people are sitting in dirty diapers waiting for thier next small dose of health. Tell the Republicans to cut thier own saleries and health benefits, then I’ll talk to them.

  9. Jean Handley on July 18, 2011 at 10:21 pm

It is unconscionable what the Republicans are doing with this debt ceiling crisis. It is a manufactured crisis in that it has been raised countless times before by the some of the same people refusing to do it now. Without a balanced approach with revenue included it should be a nonstarter. Please DO NOT allow cuts to the Big Three (SS, Medicare, Medicade) Please tell the President to not cave on this. If he does, I think he is in a pretty bad place when it comes to his re-election and this comes from a staunch supporter and volunteer during his last campaign!

  10. folorunso fatomiloye on July 18, 2011 at 10:22 pm

there should be no cut to social security medicaid and
Medicare if there is cut i will not forgive my party the Democratic party .The president and the democratic leaders should not cave in for any reason.

  11. Judith N. Frist-Riutort on July 18, 2011 at 10:23 pm

The Fellowship/Family was founded in 1935 in opposition to the “New Deal”…Bush II with their support finally created the financial crises that would put SS, medicare and medic aid in danger. Compromising these programs is the among the first steps in forming an oligarchy….

  12. James M. Gradnigo on July 18, 2011 at 10:24 pm

We need to leave social security, Medicare, and Medicare alone and tax the rich a lot more.

  13. indievoter on July 18, 2011 at 10:25 pm

I thnk that the party of the very rich ais about to pull a kerfuffle over the middle class, and it seems President Obama is willing to compromise. They(Republicans) want us to take the hit on Medicare, and Social Security, but I don’t see the very rich paying tha single dime in tax incrfease what up with that. President Obama I just want you to know that we are with you don’t Cave.

  14. James M. Gradnigo on July 18, 2011 at 10:26 pm

The President should not compromise one bit to the republicans.

  15. Sonya on July 18, 2011 at 10:26 pm

Please do not cut social security Medicare or medicaid…
I strongly feel, to believe that the tea party IS THE KKK
with all the changes the republicans are posing and acting
they are acting like puppets on a string. For the tea party
I can see it, I Can hear it and I most definitely feel if
    SO.
NO NO NO is my vote

  16. James M. Gradnigo on July 18, 2011 at 10:27 pm

The reason the republicans are protecting the rich is because they (the republicans) are being paid by the rich.

  17. Roger Olson on July 18, 2011 at 10:28 pm

You know i work hard for a modest living raising three kids.I can barley save anything for my future retirement.I need social security
to survive in my retirement years.Only a small part of the people
in this country were born with a silver spoon in there mouth,Aparently most Rebublicans were. They want to reduce us to third world living standards,I just don’t get it,Actually I do but if I speak the truth on here I won’t get my opinion listed!!

  18. John Wandling on July 18, 2011 at 10:28 pm

I worked and paid for over 40 years in to social security and medicare. It’s not something I want for free, I paid for it, the GOP can’t just cut it. It’s time to send the GOP packing.

  19. James M. Gradnigo on July 18, 2011 at 10:29 pm

The republicans are saying that they are trying to protect the american people, which is not true. Why don’t the republicans take a poll and ask us what do we want.

  20. steve azbell on July 18, 2011 at 10:33 pm

the republicans have to be stoped they have done nothing in the past two years but buck the president them and the tea party are basicly one in the same they would be tickled to shut down the gov.

  21. John A Smith Jr on July 18, 2011 at 10:34 pm

If President Obama caves on this deal without a tax increase, he will be done with the American people. My Congressman and both Delaware Senators have already said they will not support any deal without a tax increase. The majority of the American people support the Democrates and reject the Republican plan.
Where are the jobs the Republicans promised if they were elected in 2010? Still not one jobs bill passed by the elected Republican Congress.
    Thank You,
    John a smith Jr

  22. Patty on July 18, 2011 at 10:40 pm

What’s so is so – everything else is just the story about it. So what?

Republicans need to ‘get off it’ over increased taxes…that’s what!

Time to get out your wallets.

  23. Patricia Noseks on July 18, 2011 at 10:42 pm

There should be no cuts to social security, medicare, and medicaid. The wealthy need to pay there fair share of taxes as the rest of us do. The president and the democratic leaders should not cave in for any reason. Why are the democrats giving them everything they want and they give nothing in return. Seniors received no cost of living raise for two years. It’s hurting us with the cost of living going up every time we turn around. Too many people are suffering because of this. It’s time the republicans give something up. Besides all of this, our freedoms are being taken away from us with all these new laws they are coming up with. I don’t believe they are for the people. They need to act like adults and quit playing these games.

    • Edith L. Laster on July 18, 2011 at 11:03 pm

AMEN AMEN, NO CAVING IN AGAIN PRESIDENT

  24. Harrietta Harris on July 18, 2011 at 10:44 pm

Obama needs to stand strong and do not cave on this issue for any reason. If you stand for the right thing the country will be behind you and we will all go up or down together. What you can not tell me is,you gave in to save something else. The middle class and the poor have done their part. It is now time for the rich to do thier part.
They have all the tax breaks to create new jobs but they are not doing that. Instead, they are getting fatter and fatter bank accounts.Close the loop holes raise the taxes to what they where before Bush got in office.Clinton had a surplus when he left office
from. No cuts on the Big Three.

  25. Debbie Martinez on July 18, 2011 at 10:50 pm

My mother has worked hard all her life! How can those Republicans even think about cutting social security benefits when that’s the only means of support ?!? What is going on here!
    Support our president!

  26. Mr. V. on July 18, 2011 at 10:51 pm

No! to cuts to social security and medicare and medcaid. I will be voting Democratic across the board this election season now that I see who’s for the real American people and not just the rich. So bought politicians “BEWARE”!

  27. James Meccia on July 18, 2011 at 10:54 pm

It is time for President Obama to do what he says. DON’T CAVE ON THIS DEAL WITH OUT TAX INCREASES ON TOP 2%. Why is it always what the reps want!

  28. Edith L. Laster on July 18, 2011 at 10:56 pm

CONGRESS DO NOT VOTE ANY CUTS IN SOCIAL SERCURITY OR MEDICARE/ IF THE ONLY WAY TO RAISE TAXES ON THE WEALTHY IS TO RAISE TAXES ON ALL OF US,THEN DO IT, I WOULD RATHER GO BACK TO CLINTON`S TAXES THAN LET THOSE REPUBLICANS BACK US UP EVEN MORE, MR PRESIDENT, IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO USE THE POWER WE GAVE YOU “VETO” AND STAND UP FOR US IF YOU EXSPECT TO BE ELECTED AGAIN, PUT THE GREEDY HOGS AND ALL THEIR BACKERS THE REPUBLICANS IN THEIR PLACE AND LETS ALL PROSPER OR GO DOWN FIGHTING, I AM A DONNER OF THE DEM. PARTY, YOU HAVE NOT SHOWED THE STRENGHT FOR PROGESSIVE MOVEMENT WE EXSPECT OF YOU/ GET OFF THE FENCE AND DO WHAT IS NEEDED TO MOVE US FORWARD.

  29. Ernest Keucher on July 18, 2011 at 10:57 pm

The time for action in the asinine debate on the debt ceiling is well past its limit. If merely 76 tea party freshmen congressmen can bankrupt the entire country out of their pure economic ignorance, tell them to get the hell out of the way and give the vote to the adults.
As a registered Republican, I am amazed how “jobs” is not the priority; not day-to-day squabbling over a cut-and-dried necessity. You were sent to Washington to represent ALL the people – not the ignorant. Look at the polls, and get off the dime! Raise the ceiling! NOW!

  30. Hank D. on July 18, 2011 at 11:15 pm

Since early 2010 I have been saying there are many Republicans who would rather see the country go down than have the rich pay thier fair share of taxes. Mr President the middle of the road is not there, it fact it was never there. Mr President please stop saying “probably” or “maybe”, it is time to draw our line in the sand
and say the rich MUST START PAYING THIER FAIR SHARE. By the way our politicians have a lot of fat in thier wallets. As I understand it a senator who serves one year and and out, keeps his salary. Whats wrong with all politicians, except the president,be put on social security

  31. carman on July 18, 2011 at 11:17 pm

There is no dout in my mind that the Republicans are holding everything hostage. And the Dems are as weak as a dead battery.I’ve spent all my life supporting a group of weak kneed ideologs. And for the first time in my 61 years I will not vote in support for a Dem, if Obama give in to any more cuts in SS, medicare, are any other american program affecting the true backbone of this country”The american working class”. And when I think back on how I almost lost my life in defense of this country,It sickings me deeply to see where we’re headed. I’m very clear that it has always been the hard working american that has the least, and gives up the most in order to make this country great. And for what???????

  32. Marty on July 18, 2011 at 11:33 pm

Republicans need to stop undermining the middle class in the name of the Tea Party to protect special interest that line their pockets, via ALECEXPOSED.ORG – A MUST READ. Stop corporate welfare by closing tax loop holes on the wealthy one percent and raise their taxes, but do not sacrifice Americans safety net by cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid or raising the retirement age.

  33. Dennis lasko on July 18, 2011 at 11:38 pm

Stop this call and no cuts to socity security and medcare and the President need to tell the republicans that the U.S. needs the upper 1/2 and also the top big money pay the increases in taxes so we get U.S. going again like President Like & Clinton did in the pass. Before its to late!!!

  35. Larry Tonus on July 19, 2011 at 1:09 am

    Dear U.S. Congressmen,
Please do not alow the “Tea Party” to destroy President Obama and the United State’s economy by default. Call a vote and both the Democrat and Republcan congressmen vote to see what the result will be? It would be pure democracy which would settle this once and for all, come what may.

There should be no cut to social security, medicare and medicaid in any case. Republicans are all ganged up to sell whole countyr to wealthy businesmans of this country and outsiders to whom they are alreay sold. Republicans want their friends and thenselves to become more rich and everybody else to become slaves of those wealty man. Morden slavery is back. Abraham Lincoln is crying.

  40. Dorothy Green on July 19, 2011 at 1:46 am

I think every person receiving social security, should give back to social security five dollars per month. We can take care of it together. There is a saying that one snowflake by it self can do nothing but together they can stop traffic. fifty billion people giving back five dollors a month to social security will go a long way. We can say it’s America Helping American.

  41. Verdis Colbert on July 19, 2011 at 1:56 am

Its a shame that the republican or willing to see the country U.S go completely under, from a recession to a depression for big business interest. It seems obvious that the gov. rep.(anti-americans is corrupt ON A WIDE SCALE and the only way we will see real change is that the AMERICAN PEOPLE PROVOKE A REVOLUTION, im talking on the steet protest boycott, and sign petitions, i hope it dont come to that.

    • Donna Gerhart on July 19, 2011 at 10:45 am

I feel as a fictional character might have felt as she sat knitting in the town square and watching as the blade fell on the neck of the king! It seems that we are just left watching this American tragedy unfold. Washington politians, return the taxes you have stolen in cuts for the wealthy, and leave our social security, medicare, and medicaid for the most needy of our Americans alone. How about you in congress give up your benefits? Such BULLY POLITICS are the stuff of the school yard, and have no place in the running of the greatest free nation in the world! So grow up and get on with your jobs, do what is right!

  42. Jane A. Scott on July 19, 2011 at 2:24 am

This is the most evilest suggestion that a man can think! To even suggest that you take benefits from the disabled, senior citizens and children who through no fault of their became. If, we let this happen America has then become Heathens.

I have worked 42 years and my husband has worked over 40 years and served in the USA Navy and Army. Its a shame that the republicans are willing to see the country U.S go completely under, from a recession to a depression for big business interest and add to their bank accounts out side of the United States. It seems obvious that the GOP anti-americans is corrupt ON A WIDE SCALE and the only way we will see real change is that the AMERICAN PEOPLE PROVOKE A REVOLUTION, im talking on the steet protest boycott, and sign petitions, i hope it will not come to that. The GOP house of represenatives have our country in a strangle hold! If the debt ceiling is not addressed, the country will not be in a recession but a full blown depression.

  44. Joyce Guilford on July 19, 2011 at 10:38 am

I worked 35 plus years & paid in to SS all those years. The GOP is anti middle class & poor, they protect big business & super wealthy on the backs of the American people.

  45. Sandra Lawrence on July 19, 2011 at 10:39 am

SAY NO, to Cuts on Social Security,Medicare & Medicaid. What are they(Tea Party & GOP) thinking? I feel, They were voted in because they claimed they would create Jobs, not destroy the middle class & working people. I’m sure there is a lot of buyers remorse from those who voted for them. I also feel they are racist and will not vote for anything that the President puts on the table, and are willing to do
anything to bring him down. I hope the Democrats will stand up for
the American people. And the wealthy should pay their share.

  46. Surya on July 19, 2011 at 10:54 am

This Republicans are not the Republicans we have seen in the past. They are not human but aliens that born from big with no love, no mind, no brain, and no concern about anything anyone else in this world but themselves. We need to stand strong as American nation and get rid of this animals. We need to send them back to where they are from. They keep talking about small business, about middle classes, and Americans but all about themselves. Americans, we need to wake up and remember that we are Americans with big hearts and sacrifice not cheating on others.

  47. Virginia Ulrich on July 19, 2011 at 11:10 am

  49. Dave on July 19, 2011 at 2:17 pm

The liars in dc as well as the states need to be on the same social security, medicare, healthcare as the rest of us. I bet it would not take very long to fix things then. We need a bill on the ballot to do this next election. While we’re at , how about us voting on their raises. After all, they work for us.

  50. John N on July 19, 2011 at 3:07 pm

I think we should lower the retirment age so the younger Americans can have more jobs.
