Don Berwick for Medicare’s 50th: Medicare for All
Don Berwick, former Administrator of Medicare and Medicaid under President Obama, shared this video with us on the 50th anniversary of the passage of Medicare and Medicaid about the need to extend public, universal care to everyone.
We needed this from the start and not just for those over 65!
Agree that health care should be made a right in the US. The best way to do that is to eliminate for profit private insurance, establish a single payer (while preserving a plurality of delivery modes), and enrolling everyone at birth or whenever they first contact a health care provider if they are not newborns. The ACA extends coverage to millions, but, establishes underinsurance as the norm, and, in the case on those receiving insurance on the exchange, uses taxpayer dollars to fund the private insurance industry-a giveaway I resent.
Must keep Medicare and would like to see in the future whoever is our next President to work on a One payer system? I am a retired RN and saw greed in medicine for many years and the cost can destroy a family who cannot afford the high cost even with health insurance? Know that Sen Sanders would like a one payer and I am not sure of Mr. Trump who at one time talked of this also? Not hear anything like this with any Republican who wanted to destroy Obamacare that even now the Supreme Court supports? Son who lost his job two years ago at age 48 college grad devastated, he was on Cobra which was very expensive he was living on his 401. Ckd out Obamacare much cheaper and guess what he kept his own Dr here in Ga. Not enough we need more and time for like the rest of the World to have a system for all to have good health care and not be broke?
I know so many elderly now that exist comfortably be of the healthcare they are able to receive. Those that don’t appreciate it must either be stinking rich or stinking young and can’t grasp the importance of Medicare in their later years.
