Despite growing concerns about the country’s long-term fiscal problems and an intensifying debate in Washington about how to deal with them, Americans strongly oppose some of the major remedies under consideration, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The survey finds that Americans prefer to keep Medicare just the way it is. Most also oppose cuts in Medicaid and the defense budget. More than half say they are against small, across-the-board tax increases combined with modest reductions in Medicare and Social Security benefits. United States is the only country in the western industrial world that is still held hostage to insurance companies and crook politicians. It is unheard of in any post industrial modern advanced countries that you could literally become homeless and forced to live on the street because you or a member of your family got sick and you can’t afford to be treated! UNBELIEVABLE. Single payer/Medicare is great ONLY for member of US Congress and their families but it is a TERRIBLE idea for ALL AMERICANS. It is socialized medicine ONLY if everyone is able to see a doctor! Hypocrisy at its worst ESPECIALLY by Republican politicians. A woman was crying at a Republican political rally in OK and was begging her Republican senator to help her husband after a brain surgery to relearn how to walk/talk/eat and the simplest daily tasks because the insurance companies refused to pay for it. Senator Coburn referred her to neighbors to help with that. Are you kidding me? If I were there I would tell that lady that you see this guy standing in front of you with the microphone [Senator Coburn] he is the one standing between you and your husband’s treatments. He is the reason you have to become homeless so your husband relearns how to feed himself. He is the reason that 48,000 Americans like you die every year because crook Republicans like Senator Coburn gets millions and millions of dollars from insurance companies to block healthcare access to all Americans. At the end the lady still wants to vote for him! I just don’t get it. Are we really that stupid? Must be, otherwise they could not get a way with it!
