Action Alert: We’re Not Covered!

Single-Payer

Today, the day of the final White House Regional Forum on Health Reform in Los Angeles, protesters will be demonstrating in front of Congressman Charles Rangels office at the State Office Building in Harlem wearing “limited coverage” hospital gowns that expose their backsides.

Leading this demonstration is the Private Health Insurance Must Go! Coalition, a New York-based group of health and human rights organizations advocating for the establishment of a national, single-payer system. They will take to the streets to tell Chairman Rangel, “Private insurance is a lot like a hospital gown…chances are you aren’t covered!”

Congressman Rangel is chair of the powerful Ways and Means Committee with jurisdiction over health care reform. At a recent rally, he stated his support for single-payer, but has not yet signed on to HR 676–which already has 74 cosponsors due to an energetic and passionate movement supporting it.

Please join Private Health Insurance Must Go! for this direct action, today, by calling, and asking Congressman Rangel to hold hearings on HR 676, stop accepting exorbitant campaign contributions from the insurance industry, and sign on to HR 676.

Call Congressman Rangel’s in-district office and urge him to sign on and hold hearings on HR 676 at 212-663-3900 or toll free at 1-866-338-1015.
