Action Alert: Don’t Shred the Social Safety Net, Mr. President

Take action at a Progressive Democrats of America Brown Bag Lunch Vigil.

In a press conference about the proposed cuts to entitlements held yesterday morning, President Obama said, “The American people want to see something done.” Yes, we do.

60% of Americans want to keep Social Security and Medicare benefits as they are.

61% think people on Medicare pay enough of their healthcare costs.

58% say low-income people should keep their Medicaid benefits.

We want something done that doesn’t destroy our social insurance programs or throw our most vulnerable populations under the bus. We know Medicare is the solution to our health and fiscal crisis, and not the problem. We want improved and expanded Medicare-for-all.

Hold a Brown Bag Lunch Vigil at your Congressmembers’ offices on July 20 so they hear our message loud and clear:

Hands off Medicare!
Hands off Medicaid!
Hands off Social Security!
END CORPORATE WELFARE!

Started over a year ago by our friends at Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), Brown Bag Lunch Vigils’ original aim was to get out a simple message: “Healthcare NOT Warfare.” As the attacks on progressive values and the principles of democracy, equality and fairness have escalated over the last year, the focus and action have broadened.

Go here to see if there’s a Brown Bag Lunch Vigil organized near you. If there isn’t, start one here.

    Please tell Mr. President.
I will vote against OBAMA if he agrees to cuts in our middle class safety net. I look to him to get tax reform of the Corporate give aways.

    Hands off Medicare!
    Hands off Medicaid!
    Hands off Social Security!
    END CORPORATE WELFARE!

The major coporrations need no breaks, but need to give us a break. don’t understand why I pay taxes for a house I own, I mean when you buy things,it is what it is yours so why keep paying for your stuff to keep it even though you paid for it? At the store you only pay taxes once right? Why are there people who have been in congress for a few years and retired still being paid phenominal paychecks just because? Its not like they went to war and risked their lives.Cut that! No one else gets paid for life for working a past job. That a few million a year ! That’s a lot of money. People work and pay social security and should have all the benrfits of using it;is it our fault the last president set this up and left so now we suffer to fix his mistskes?
