Single-Payer Activities this Weekend

The energy building around this coming weekend is palpable. Listed below are the activities that are happening in the DC Metro area and nationally to support inaugural events, which is also the weekend of Martin Luther King Day. This is an important weekend to keep single-payer out there; here’s what you can do:

Hold Signs at Inauguration

Hundreds of HR 676 signs are available for people going to DC for inaugural festivities. You can pick signs up from the California Nurses Association Office at 888 16th St NW, Suite 640 Washington, DC on Friday, January 16th OR from the Healthcare-NOW! table at the PDA Conference at University of Washington starting Friday 1/16 after 6pm here: If you are not in DC and would like signs, please contact Katie Robbins asap 1-800-453-1305.

On Inauguration Day, Tuesday 1/20, Healthcare-NOW! will have signs, leaflets and info in “progressive central” at McPherson Square, 15th St. NW. There will be heated tents, lots of information, and tons of literature on ways to get involved and make the change we want to see. Many groups will be using this space as a meet-up and kick-off spot.

Leaflet

Between 1/15 and 1/20, A quarter million leaflets will be distributed throughout the DC Metro area and the country in honor of Martin Luther King Day and the inaugural events. Please print and copy or request copies from Healthcare-NOW! ASAP to be sent to you for your inaugural and MLK events. Please contact Katie at 1-800-453-1305. If you will be in DC and would like to participate in the weekend of leafleting activities, please contact Mike Hersh at mike[at]pdamerica[dot]org. Activists will be leafleting at every Metro stop in the DC area from 1/15 – 1/19, as well as an all day leafleting effort at the Lincoln Memorial on 1/18, so please be in touch Mike to help out. No one can replace you!

PDA Grassroots Leadership Conference

The PDA Grassroots Leadership Conference will be held January 17th and 18th at the University of the District of Columbia (4200 Connecticut Ave, Washington, DC 20008). There will be an excellent Healthcare NOT Warfare panel and more. Pick up signs and fliers at UDC starting at 6pm Friday 1/16. More details on the agenda here.

Thanks for all you do to keep single-payer in front of the media, elected-officials, and the general public.
