My oldest daughter is now 52, and I’m 72. When I found out I was pregnant within a very short time after getting married, I was concerned about having another financial responsibility. My obstetrician’s fee was $1,500 which needed to be paid in full before child birth which meant I really needed to pay almost $200 each month we had not budgeted. Although I don’t know how, we somehow managed the extra expense. When I think back as compared to today, I just sort of laugh to myself. My actual story is things really aren’t that different. The United States has been struggling with similar issues for many years.
