Our New Director of Organizing
Healthcare-NOW!’s Steering Committee and staff are happy to announce that Benjamin Day will take over as our Director of Organizing in early February 2013. Ben’s proven dedication to, knowledge of, and experience with the single-payer movement were instrumental in the Steering Committee’s decision to add him to our small staff.
Ben has been the Executive Director of Mass-Care: The Massachusetts Campaign for Single Payer Health Care since 2006. Under his leadership Mass-Care grew into a coalition of over 100 member organizations and five local chapters. You may have heard of Mass-Care’s successful 2008 and 2010 single-payer ballot question campaigns that passed in every district (24 altogether) they organized in.
Before joining Mass-Care, Ben received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Political Science from UMass Boston in 2002, where he graduated as the John F. Kennedy Award winner, UMass Boston’s version of valedictorian. Following graduation Ben attended the University of Sussex in Brighton, England on a Fulbright Scholarship for a Masters in Social and Political Thought.
Healthcare-NOW! is dedicated to continuing the movement for national, single-payer healthcare in the United States into 2013 and beyond. With Ben’s depth of knowledge, we’re sure to expand the movement so we can win.
We also want to take a moment to publicly thank all the activists who applied and were interviewed for the position. We learned so much about the movement and how we can improve from all of you. We truly wish that we could hire you all.
