Whereas:
We spend over $2 trillion for healthcare in the US, yet almost 100 million of us are uncovered or undercovered for the care we need;

Whereas: the healthcare coverage in the  United States is ranked #37 in the world by the World Health Organization even though we spend almost twice as much as any other country, enough money to cover everybody with excellent comprehensive healthcare;

Whereas: A bill has been proposed in Congress, HR-676, non-profit Medicare for All, that outlines a national health care program providing for guaranteed affordable health care and prescription drugs for everyone in the country;

Whereas: Over 12,000 thousand doctors, almost 300 labor union endorers, and hundreds of other faith groups have signed on in favor of this plan, including two former U.S. Surgeons General;

Whereas: Under this proposed plan, we can pay for a comprehensive national health care program with the same money we are now spending and cover every single person in the United States:

And Whereas: The bill, H.R. 676, provides money for retraining those whose jobs as administrators in the insurance industry would be lost as a result of this shift;

Be it Resolved That: We call on our members of Congress to pass HR 676, non-profit Medicare for All, so our people and our nation can have the excellent health care system we deserve. Health care is a human right, and we call on our members of Congress to recognize that right.

Why are only some of our children partialy covered with health care? Why are our veterans being turned away without health care using the infamous Chapter 5-13 "Personality Disorder" as an excuse? Why are we expected to bail out underserving crooks while ignoring our own citizens? How much longer are we going to be the laughing stock of the world? Why aren't we more inraged?

I have been a nurse for 30 years and understand how we pay personally, as a community and as a country for our short-sighted approach to health care. How can we allow health care to be at the mercy of businesses whose purpose is to make profits for private stockholders? Would we accept that approach in our poice, our fire departments, our libraries? Of course not. Is health care less necessary for our people? Of course not.

HR-676 is the solution to the medical care issue in the United States--poverty and healthcare are moral issues!

I see this as an investment in the American economy. Healthy workers are less stressed, work more productively and have less injuries and time off due to illness. I have never had health insurance except while serving in the military. I work full-time and can't afford to pay for medical insurance for me and my children without working an extra job to pay for it all. The extra job would then lead to lack of time with the kids and degradation of the family. I thank God my health is excellent and have had no major injuries or real need for medical attention. I can continue to work and provide for my family. Look at the extreme example. I get sick and can't afford healthcare. I'm not working so I can't pay the bills. I loose my job, cannot afford to get medical help and am dependant on goverment assistance for the rest of my life. What costs less?
Ed FlanaganFL
Insurance companies now suck up about one-third of all our medical expenses, and they contribue NOTHING to health care. Medicare A&B work! (and if you voted for Medicare D,shame on you.)

We are a retired military family. Between MEDICARE and TRICARE FOR LIFE (TFL) we are well covered. So we know that universal health care is possible without bankrupting the nation. I fully support the HR 676 that would provide non-profit health care for all. It works!! All Americans deserve better health care coverage than is currently available.

My wife has a blocked artery to the left side of her brain, due to violent abuse she experienced as a young woman. She must use blood thinners to prevent strokes, which raises her blood pressure. She has an old knee injury which cuases swelling and extreme pain. We were covered under my previous employer and paid $700 per month for Cobra coverage when I was fired. Now we are covered again, but our new insurer insists that she has a pre-existing condition, and thast we did not maintain coverage and, as a result, they are not requiered to provider coverage. They are wrong, but it will be a struggle to enforce the law and get these things paid.

The health care in these United States is broken when a convict can go to prison and get free health care and yet the honest person on the street cannot. Or when you find yourself in the emergency room for hours waiting to be seen by some only for them not to take the time to listen to you. We are the richest country in the world and yet we discrimenate against our veterans and our elderly especially when it comes to health care.
Chris LeeMI
Surgery, the thought of it is scary. Words of unaffordable surgery, scarier. Go to dictionary.com They used health care as a example from the word UNAFFORDABLE. People should be able to live life comfortably not uncomfortably till the last minutes of their lifes. Signing this is one step towards a comfortable worry free life. My girlfriend has suffered through childhood and when she finally seems to breakthrough it, she finds a medical condition that could traumatically affect her for the rest of her life. Still a student she cant even afford check up or treatment. We seriously need to open the eyes of the government because they are blind with greed.

Can someone tell me how long this corrupt government will continue to turn the knife inside of every American before American's WAKE UP and realize this contry does not belong to us but to BIG INDUSTRY, lobbyists, and the bureaucrat's they pamper and pay. Its not about the american people anymore. Anyone who says life in America can be fulfilling with the current system we have in place is either 1.)Still living at home with mom and dad. 2.) Still in college imagining the world is their oyster, or, 3.) Happens to have a great paying job that they can never be fired or laid off from. Oh and one more way someone could look at the state of America today and still think it's the greatest nation on earth is if they are completely blind. America needs an overhaul from the bottom up. Some where, some how, all these politicians started making decisions for the nation without the nations best interest. Seems to me like everything is based around the idea of "Americans have some money in their pocket that they can hang on to and save, how do we get it away from them?" If American's have become so hopeless they see no point to protest's, demonstrations, and marches then in reality we have decided to give up and let the government do absolutly everything they want to us. WAKE UP AMERICA, its time to act!
Anthony AndersonFL
As a Florida state Paramedic I have worked for profit and not for profit companies. I am unable to work for for-profit organizations because they go against everything healthcare is. Healthcare to me is about healthy people caring for our sick. And one day when I get sick I dont want money being an issue. ITS NOT RIGHT. Those who do not support a universal healthcare system have no idea what it is like to have a loved who needs treatment and it be denied based on some insurance company not wanting to pay for it. Is this America? I hope the opponents have extremely secure jobs, you never know, you may find out how harsh life in america can be.

I am 80 years young, a WW2 Veteran. I am ashammed to say that the richest country in the world and our politician can not or will not give every person in this country health coverage Most every country in the world has health coverage for thier seniors. This is a nightmare of biblical proportion. We are the richest country in the world and we can not provide universal healthcare for our citizens. This issue is not about maintaining corporate profits, but its about a fundamental human right. Lets just take a look at other nations. When I compare our situation to other countries such as Germany, Great Britian, and France, I find that they have managed to provide universal healthcare for their citizens. So why not America? Lets get on aboard with the rest of the world and give our citizens what is in their best interest as opposed to the interest of private enterprise.

I will be 55 this year and have no healthcare. I have been a foster mother and adoptive mom/homemaker for 10 years. My husband is a freelance artist with no benefits. We have not had a check up since we gave up our ins. We could not afford the medical bills for what our ins. didn't cover and our premiums. We need real healthcare. No more paying for coverage we are cheated out of.

I have stage 1V cancer and already the Bush cuts to Medicare are affecting me and my fellow patients. My Oncologist and my Hospital said by next year they will not be able to treat us due to the new Laws and private HMO Medicare plans set to be rolled-out, and compete with the Original Medicare by next year. They are crap. My Oncologist will close the doors and we will die. Bush has already damaged what Medicare will cover to make it so-called competitive with those Private Insurers. I will die and he also cut-out and lowered the blood booster for us; we cannot get our blood boosted unless we hit 9.9! People should be at 12-14!! He plans to lower the blood transfusion rates too from 8 to 7. I am at 10 and so anemic I can barely walk...Many will die just like me. I am 49. Let's not be a third world country-Save Americans Now! I own a small business and I cant afford insurance. As a small business owner I am limited to a budget that may or may not come in the same evey month. Only thing I know is that humans get sicker as they get older not better. Whether or not you live a haelthy life or not , everyone gets sick. Not if but when I get sick it will be good to know I can get care without bankrupting me and loosing my business and unemploying several people. This issue effects others around us as well. Quit taking under the table payoffs by drug reps and healthcare providers and do the right thing for the you citizens. Thank You

I've been lucky to have relatively good health. But I am a medical student to graduate in June 2008, and just about everyday I see patients demoralized and fearful because of health problems and lack of access to healthcare. Medicine is far from perfect and all-knowing, but it does offer wonderful, practical solutions for many health problems and lack of individual ability to pay should not be the deciding factor as to whether a person receives care or not.

I am a small business owner. Each year my premiums increase at least 25%. Because of this, we have had to buy the worst plan to cope with the rising rates. My own doctor won't take my insurance. With single-payer health care, I will save money, can offer better coverage, and pass the savings to my employees. We need single-payer health care NOW!

I believe we must do something, and HR 676 offers the most reasonable solution. Too many are without healthcare for a country so rich in every other way. This is something we can change together and leave a positive legacy for our children and their children. Future generations need not be shackled to a system that drives their future and continues down a path that we can see now holds no future.

Being in a situation where my husband is self employed and we have no health care coverage, it is a sad day when we take our 3 children to a clinic where there are non US citizens are being treated 100% free.

Referred by the insurance to a provider, provider performed surgery, bill was denied (insurance had terminated contract with provider while in transition of having surgery), received bills and argued for years. Got sick of it and threatened legal action in two states, insurer saw the light and decided to retroactively pay without any further issue. It must have been all the obvious supporting documentation that they finally understood when presented with the word "Attorney" in the same sentence. We are not a third world nation, just our healthcare is. We deserve national coverage. Private insurance (not-for-profit & for profit) all act the same and will never put the patient first. We can socialize this one thing without jeopardizing our capitalistic democracy. And in the process maybe for the first time ever we won't have people losing their homes and going bankrupt for healthcare.

It is time for the atrocities to stop. It is time that you take action as our appointed representatives. It seems to me that the only reason we are the only top industrialized nation to deny our citizens free, quality health care is due to our failure to watch-dog the vast medical profiteer complex that we have created. I believe in Capitalism. However, not at the expense of our morality. We as a society must first and foremost champion our humanity and do what is right at every outset to ensure our future. We can start my passing H.R. 676. I know you will do what is right. Thank you, Brian Krok

I'm a small business owner who's worked between 60-70 hours a week the past 3 years, no vacations, just working hard. I cannot afford to hire employees because I can't afford their health insurance. I also cannot afford health insurance. Because of the long hours, my body is breaking down. I take care of myself, but I sure wish I could afford some help - and it would be lovely to see a doctor and get checked out. I pay a lot in taxes. I'm glad to contribute in this way. It's not a problem. But if something should happen to me, or if my body continues to break down from the stress and long hours, I won't be a contributing member of society. I'll be homeless. How's that for the American dream?

I am a Canadian citizen who did not know how badly off were my Southern neighbours until I saw SICKO. I have not bad stories to tell, only good ones. Example: Last week I started coughing and hacking. I thought it was only air pollution. By Friday, I had to see a doctor. I checked the Appletree clinics around Ottawa to see the wait times. One had a 40 minute wait time so I made it over. I waited one hour to be seen by a doctor in this walk-in clinic. After examining me he sent me for chest X-ray, ecg, blood work, etc. and told me to come back Tues. evening (last night) I showed up and he told me that what I contracted was a form of pneumonia. Lucky I went to the clinic. He told me to finish all of my antibiotics. He gave me an anti-pneumonia vaccination. I feel fine today. Cost: My Provincial health card. $0.00. I am from Norway, and we do have social health. I am currently living in USA and paying my health insurance. I cannot understand any country that will not take care of their own people. USA has wonderful people - they deserve the best, a good healt and good schools so they can continue making this country a country to be proud of. At this time with the healt care and school system so far behind, it is worse than most 3 world contries.

I am self-employed and have to buy my own health insurance but when I tried to buy an individual plan, I was denied because I have had atypical moles. Luckily, I was able to get health insurance through my boyfriend's (domestic partner) job. But, just this year, Blue Shield decided to cancel that plan and drop us and about 8,000 other Realtors and their families in California from their coverage. We were not sure what we were going to do but again we got lucky and Blue Cross decided to step in and offer a plan for us. Now we are at least covered for a year but what is to stop Blue Cross from deciding to drop their coverage too? In addition, each time we have to change insurance, we have to change doctors and we lose the connection and history we have established with our doctors. Also, the premiums went up considerably from $486 per month to $650 per month which just seems really excessive to us. It is very scary to have our health and our lives be at the whim of these companies who care more about making a profit than our well-being. It also doesn't make sense that the people who need care the most (people with health conditions) are the ones who cannot get access to medical care. Health care should be provided to everyone for free and should be considered a basic human right. I will gladly pay more taxes if it means that I am guaranteed to be taken care of if I get sick.

I don't have a story, but I don't want one either. Preventative health care is vital, I'm scared to go to the doctor now, and I have full coverage. I make a lot of money doing what I do, I have the benefits I need, but I'm cancer away from losing everything. That's horrible. I'm a grown adult, scared to hear bad news from the doctor. Let's get health care under control now.

I had radiation treatment on my throat for cancer. Teeth have gone bad; as the saliva glands are FRIED when they zap you. Medicare does NOT cover dental; even though it's major cause of health problems following such treatments. Congress and the Senate get FULL coverage on everything that goes wrong. Wonder why we aren't ALL covered in the same plan? It would eliminate the middle man / multi-million dollar pay checks of the insurance execs. I recommend a Bolshivek type revolution.

I've been in the U.S for 20 years now and without Health Insurance of any sort, which has not been easy and I'm sure has taken years of my life. Simply due to this profit system which is automatically a class system. I've been a hard worker and payed my taxes but those are not the Social-prerequisites for HealthCare in this here U.S. of A. A bill like Single Payer H.R. 676 - Medicare for ALL! is the only viable solution at the current moment. It's what We The People want and need. What else should be said? Well, it is simply, the right and just thing to do, the Godly thing to do.
