I, for one, have written to my congressmen, the white house, on blogs and Healthcare-Now---We already pay for it. What is it that is so difficult to understand that if we had Medicare for All that we would pay a much smaller health tax (Medicare taxes) in lieu of outrageous insurance premimums of 10 to 20 thousand dollars per year. Had the president used the bully pulpit to make this argument the public would have been much more supportive. There simply has to be millions of savvy Americans who would understand this simple truth if it was made clear. Obama received 20 million from healthcare profiteers and then Obama's allegience to the for profit health industry was sealed, no rational argument was probable. Dave Lindorff's article above is only the second time I have seen the argument expressed in print, on blogs or even Healthcare-Now that single payer would be paid for via a Medicare tax in lieu of for profit insurance premiums at a fraction of the cost. Funding for HR676 is summarized on Healthcare-Now but no formal argument is ever made that this funding would replace for profit health insurance premiums. Healthcare-Now subscribers might put the obvious together but it is just left to the wind that the public would put the obvious together. It didn't happen.
