Dear President Obama,

I understand your desire for,(and lately, the practical need to) obtain bi-partisan support for your Health Care reform initiative. Your job is made nearly impossible by the fact that You face a divided Congress, many of whom simply wish for your downfall. They would confound anything you suggested, even if they personally loved it. I hope you will ram through a version of Single Payer Healthcare in the same autocratic style used by the White House's former tenant(never thought I'd say that.) As Eddie Rickenbacker once said (and I paraphrase), "Courage is doing something you're afraid to do. They're can be no courage unless you're scared." Remember that the chief hero of Canada is Tommy Douglas, the man who brought them their national health system.

The only true solution is a single payer health care plan. The true path to achieving it is education and planning. We need clear and simple messsages to deliver nationally and we need to plan how to meet the well-founded fears people associate with a single payer plan. As we now see, any compromise results in further dilution until we end up with a reform that would increase costs while benefiting a relatively small number of those suffering under the current system.
