I am for a single payer system and that all should be covered under Medicare, including all government employees, veterans, everyone! Health care coverage should be a right and not controlled by for-profit insurance companies. They pick and choose who they will insure. Only insuring the “insurable” under a national plan will not be feasible. Medicare for all would help all businesses except insurers and pharmaceutical companies, who are only concerned with their bottom line and quarterly reports. It is time for Congress to act like statesmen and stop catering to big business!

At this grave time in our nation’s economy, we must have equitable representation from all sides of solutions to what ails our health care system. Single payer advocates provide an important voice in terms of creating efficiencies in our system and not allowing the insurance lobby to impact the price of insurance, which surely adds to the cost of care. While I understand that the current administration is pragmatic, as Rahm Emmanuel states, we would be foolish to waste a good crisis and really tinker with as opposed to reform our health care system.

Single-payer national healthcare is the best way to ensure universal coverage and drive down rising healthcare costs. Mr. President, I encourage you to re-enact Medicare during your first term.
